AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Bernard "Bernie" John Cobos Sr.

28 août 1939 – 15 août 2025
Avis de décès de Bernard "Bernie" John Cobos Sr.
AUX SOINS DE

Funeraria del Angel Santa Paula

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bernard "Bernie" John Cobos Sr., age 85, of Saticoy and Oxnard, California, who departed this life on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Bernie was a devoted father, loving brother, cherished uncle, beloved cousin, and loyal friend. He was a man of resilience, and deep integrity, whose life was defined by hard work, humility, and an unwavering love for his family.

Throughout his life, Bernie held many roles while working as a chef, truck driver, and maintenance worker, each one reflecting his strong work ethic and his ability to get the job done with care and pride. He was also affectionately known as “MacGyver” by those close to him, thanks to his natural talent for tinkering, fixing, and finding clever solutions to almost anything. If it was broken, Bernie could, and would, fix it.

He was famously known for his “red chicken,” a beloved family favorite that became something of a legend in its own right. Whether served at a family gathering or a casual Sunday dinner, his red chicken was more than a meal, it was a tradition, a comfort, and a reminder of the love he poured into everything he did.

Bernie was also an avid golfer who enjoyed many rounds on the course with his longtime friend and cousin, John Contreras, nationwide. Their camaraderie and friendly competition on the greens brought him great joy and forged memories he treasured deeply.

Those who knew Bernie will remember his steady presence, generous spirit, and the way he made others feel welcome and at ease. He valued the simple things in life such as sharing meals, long conversations, and time spent with loved ones. His hands were rarely still, always building, repairing, or improving something, whether for himself or for someone in need.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bernie is survived by his son James, sister Gloria, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
