David was a good man with a big heart. He knew almost everyone in Santa Paula. He was always in a good mood and loved sitting in his garage, waving to everyone that drove by his house on Santa Paula St and striking up a conversation with anybody that would walk by or stopped to say ‘hello’.
David worked for Saticoy Lemon Packing House for over 40 years until he retired at age 62, as he wanted to do many of the things he wasn’t able to do during the 10 years of taking care of his beloved mother, Beatrice, until her passing. He loved eating and had a very good appetite, his favorite foods being chili verde barbecued ribs. David loved barbecuing and insisted it had to be on sunny days as cloudy days would make him feel a little down. While David wasn’t a fan of crowds, he did enjoy going out riding towards Ventura beaches, dining at restaurants, going to concerts and car shows, even if he just watched all through his parked car.
He always wanted to have free time for himself and be able to get away, but after his accident where he lost his leg, things slowed down and he was unable to go out anymore, drive his car to run errands, pick up dinner, or groceries. David always looked forward to family coming over to make dinner and enjoy it together at his kitchen table.
David is survived by his brother, Martin Vasquez, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maximiliano Vasquez and Beatriz Villanueva Vasquez; and siblings, Tony, Max, Margaret, Frankie, Joe, Ray, and Eleanor. David’s older sister, Guadalupe Vasquez Ortiz, passed two days before him on April 17, 2023.
David was a great son, brother, uncle, compadre, neighbor, and friend to many. He would have been an incredible husband and father. We are all going to miss him so very much.
