On Palm Sunday April 1, 2012, after an extended illness Judy went home to be with her Heavenly Father. Great faith helped prolong her life and gave her courage to pass into eternity to be with our Creator. She was so blessed and thankful for the many friends who offered encouragement, love and prayers.
Judy was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., and in 1943 moved with her family to Ventura. She attended Washington Elementary School, Ventura Junior and Senior High Schools, Ventura Junior College and then San Francisco State University.
She was a mother of two sons and a successful business owner. Judy's favorite job in her life was being owner/operator of The Dress Machine, a successful dress shop and boutique in Santa Paula, for more than 25 years. Judy learned to sew at an early age and people greatly appreciated her eye for contemporary fashion and custom tailoring. She loved helping customers dress up and feel good about themselves, inside and out. She tried to be a blessing to others, sharing her faith, offering encouragement and in turn, she was blessed.
Judy loved the outdoors. She also enjoyed traveling and had an adventurous spirit, even taking her two young boys on an extended European vacation by car. Later in life, Judy went back to college and earned her California State Teachers Credential. Judy taught in many different capacities in the Ventura County area. She also volunteered her time tutoring many kids and teaching third grade Sunday school at New Life Community Church in Oxnard. She was always excited to help kids find success in life through learning. She especially loved to read stories to her grandkids. We will miss her love and enthusiasm, her faith, the prayers and encouragement, her Godly Wisdom, her humor and her cooking, beautiful flower gardens (she loved growing flowers!) and much more.
Judy is survived by her two sons, Greg and David Mitchell; daughters-in-law, Sabine and Wendi; grandkids, Donovan, Moritz and Niels. Judy is also survived by sisters, Jeanie Lynch and Julie Morgan, and brother, Jim Morgan.
A celebration of Judy's life will be held at New Life Community Church in Oxnard on the afternoon of Sunday, April 15.
