

Mr. Allen Austin McLean, Sr. a longtime resident of Chickasaw, AL went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at a local hospital surrounded by his family. Allen McLean, Sr. was born on December 25, 1931 in Cobbville, GA. Mr. McLean was a graduate of North Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He was a school teacher and basketball coach at high schools throughout Georgia. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army-serving in the Korean Conflict as 1st Lt. He retired from retail management which included manager of Gaylords/Zayres. He loved the city of Chickasaw where he served 10 years as a city councilman and was awarded the Civitan of the Year award in 1998. He was a member of First Baptist Chickasaw. Mr. McLean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Austin McLean; mother, Minnie Driver McLean, three sisters, Sybil McLean Brown, Elyse McLean Edwards, and Eunice McLean Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary McLean of Mobile; five children, Allen McLean, Jr. (Gail) of Saraland, AL.; Angie McLean of Tampa, FL.; Chris McLean (Alison) of Satsuma, AL.; Tonya McLean Penton (Brad) of Mobile, AL.; Andy McLean (Sarah) of St. Augustine, FL; seven grandchildren, Lea Harris, Jackie McLean, Hannah Pose, Keith McLean, Austin McLean, Bradford Penton, Jr., and Isaac McLean; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylea McLean, Ariel McLean, and Zoey McLean. One brother, Elton McLean of McRay, GA., and one sister, Leora McLean Adams of Greenville, SC. He was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Radney’s Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be Friday, June 1, 2012, 10 am at the funeral home chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express a special “thank you” to the staff at Providence Hospital. The doctors, nurses, and support staff of MICU will forever hold a place in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
