On the quiet morning of February 16, 2018, in Mobile, Alabama, a city which he loved so well and served so faithfully, the spirit of Dr. Ben F. George, Jr. left this world. He was born January 7, 1955 to Ben and Joyce George in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Davidson High School, he continued his education and received his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1980. A mixed animal veterinarian, he was the founder of the Saraland Veterinary Clinic and the Heart of Dixie Veterinary Clinic, where he was passionate about caring for his patients, clients, and staff members. Within those walls an untold number of new four-legged family members have been welcomed, wounds have been treated, broken bones have been set, and tears have been shed by both doctor and family as loyal pets breathed their last in loving arms. On his home farm, he was also a skilled and generous gardener, and many a client left his veterinary clinic with both a healthier pet and a gift of fresh produce and eggs. Dr. Ben George is survived by his wife Janet George; his two sons, Ben George, III (Rhonda) and Thomas George; his two daughters, Catherine Turberville (Daniel) and Elizabeth Simpson (Brad); and eight adoring grandchildren. He was a compassionate and dedicated veterinarian, a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a trustworthy and selfless friend to those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Dr. George. We who loved you will strive to do our duty to continue your legacy and make you proud. A memorial service open to all will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com.
