Don Wesley Gerhardt

Don Wesley Gerhardt, a 76 year-old native of Mobile and long-time resident of Satsuma, passed away at his home on Friday, July 7, 2017. A member of Satsuma High School's first graduating class, Mr. Gerhardt graduated in 1958. After high school, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals professional baseball organization and finished his career with the Detroit Tigers. He retired from Kemira as the maintenance manager after many years of service. Growing up on the Mobile Delta, Mr. Gerhardt was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his time hunting, fishing, and boating. He was also a dedicated coach in the North Mobile area youth sports programs for over 25 years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his four beloved grandchildren, and was a devoted supporter of their many activities.

Mr. Gerhardt was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur C. Gerhardt, Sr. and Julia Griffin Gerhardt; sister, Dorothy Gerhardt Crabtree; and brother, Arthur C. Gerhardt, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Wanda Pearce Gerhardt; children, Don Wesley Gerhardt, II (Laura) and Shannon Gerhardt Collins (Robert); grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Gerhardt, Don Wesley “Trey” Gerhardt, III, Logan Alexandra Collins, and Mallorie Grace Collins; sisters, Virginia Gerhardt DuBose and Gladys Gerhardt Marsh; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 10, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Satsuma Cemetery.
