Franklin Merel Overstreet, born August 22, 1949, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2021, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his son, Franklin “Bubba” William Overstreet; father, Frank Junior Overstreet; sister’s-in-law: Myrl Reeves and Elaine Courchesne; brother’s-in-law: Jimmy Reeves and Mike Clearman.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Vivian Clearman Overstreet; two daughters: Julie Overstreet Bassett (John Clay), Jill Overstreet Hicks (Todd); five beloved grandchildren: Jackson Bassett, Anderson Bassett, Campbell Hicks, Millie Hicks and Davis Hicks; mother, Alberta Davis Overstreet; sister, Debra Overstreet Smith (Robert); brother, Gregory Lee Overstreet; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.
Frank was a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church, now Kushla Bethany. He met his wife, Vivian, at the age of 14 and they dated until marriage on December 6, 1969. He was a 1967 graduate of Vigor High School. After realizing his gift for auto mechanics, he ventured into the world of small business with one dump truck. Overstreet Trucking has grown from one truck to multiple trucks and various equipment throughout the years. Overstreet Trucking is still in business after fifty-three years. Frank developed several hobbies and daring adventures throughout the years which included fishing, hunting, classic cars, speed boats, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and even several Ultralight Airplanes. All of these things brought him happiness, but nothing compared to the joy that he experienced spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was having his wife, girls, and grandchildren together and spending time with him around the table or on the front porch.
Frank had his first heart attack at 40 years of age. He spent many years battling Congestive Heart Failure and multiple heart surgeries. He was a fighter until the end. We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to his beloved cardiologist, Dr. Ken Burnham and staff who have been amazing over the past 20 years, his favorite nurses at Springhill Memorial Hospital on 3300 and 3400. Thank you for loving him. We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
