Freida Yvonne Howell McCaskey, born April 6, 1938, in Buzzard Roost (Lucedale), Mississippi, to Dewey and Susie Goff Howell, passed peacefully from this life on March 25, 2026. On that day, she broke free from her earthly chains and was joyfully reunited with Wallace, her beloved husband of 69 years, in the presence of the Lord.
Freida was also welcomed into heaven by her parents and her siblings, Owen and Dora. She is survived by her loving sister, Aline Brady.
A devoted mother and cherished matriarch, Freida leaves behind five children: Pamela Farmer; Rhonda Brannan (David); Kyle McCaskey (Tammy); Peggy Ford (Wade); and Ashley McCaskey (Felicia). She was a proud “Mamaw” to Jennifer Anderson (Jake), Matthew Farmer (Jennifer), Joshua Farmer (Paige), Alan Polk (Lanhuong), Drew Polk (Bonnie), William Brannan, Jillian Brannan (Anne), Danielle King (Mikey), Nicole Eubanks (Noel), Courtney Duncan (Matt), Chase Allen (Kayela), Amber Helton (Neal), Savannah Ford, and Rhett Ford.
Freida was further blessed with 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and soon to be blessed with another, each of whom she loved deeply. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith lives on through each of them.
Freida devoted herself wholeheartedly to her church, generously giving her time to support countless weddings, organize meal trains, and serve at many church gatherings. She was admired for her impeccable sense of style and was never seen in public without looking absolutely elegant. A gifted cook, she was widely celebrated for her delicious gumbo, and she was also a talented seamstress whose skill and creativity were evident in everything she made.
