
Born on May 13, 1944, in Mississippi, Ruth lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady devotion, and a generous heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrance Lee Zellers; her sisters, Betty Huot and Geraldine Griffin; and her brothers, Alan Petty and Jimmy Petty.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean Vaughn of Satsuma, Alabama, and her niece, Melody G. Hunt of Birmingham, Alabama and her nephew, David Huot of Jacksonville, Florida.
Ruth worked faithfully at BellSouth for many years, from 1964 to 1994. She was known for her strong work ethic and the calm, dependable spirit she brought to both her workplace and her home.
Above all, Ruth’s greatest calling was caring for her daughter, Donna. For the past 59 years, she devoted herself tirelessly to her daughter’s well-being, offering constant love, protection, and encouragement. Her life was a living example of sacrificial love and unwavering commitment.
Ruth had a laid-back nature that put everyone at ease. She never sought attention, yet her presence made a lasting impression. She had a special gift for making people feel comfortable and welcomed. Whether through a warm conversation or a lovingly prepared meal, she expressed her care in simple, meaningful ways. Many will remember her kitchen as a place of comfort, laughter, and full plates.
Her gentle spirit, steady love, and generous hospitality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am. The burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Eight Mile, Alabama. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com.
