

Mrs. Helen Scarbrough Rhodes, born February 25, 1927, died May 19, 2014. She was a native of Mt. Vernon, AL and a resident of Satsuma, AL since 1962. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of First Baptist Church, Satsuma, a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, past president of the Abbaettes and a member of the Eastern Star. She was employed at Brookley Air Force Base for 15 years, where she was chief of contract development, procurement and production. She retired from DuPont Agricultural Chemical Company (formerly Shell Chemical Co.) after 20 years. Mrs. Rhodes is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Curry Knight (Dusty) Rhodes, her father and mother Herman Vivian Scarbrough and Hazel Virginia Peppenhorst Scarbrough. She is survived by her son Charles Kenneth (Carolyn) Rhodes and her daughter Rachel Rhodes (Joseph) Kulakowski, four granddaughters, Kelly Rhodes (Gene) Warren, Ashley Rhodes (Miller) Glover, Sofia Kulakowski and Pia Kulakowski and four great grandchildren, Sarah Frances Warren, Wallace Miller Glover, III, Virginia Rhodes Glover and Charles Faulkner Warren. Special love and gratitude is extended to her “adopted sons” Leo and Todd Dunn and to her beloved physician, Dr. William Schulte and his staff. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, AL on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens, Mobile, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at First Baptist Church, Satsuma, AL.
