

Ira E. Lewis – age 90, Born August 31, 1920 in Tuscaloosa, AL and a longtime resident of Satsuma, AL went to be with our Lord on January 9, 2011. He was the owner of Lewis Tire Co., Saraland, AL for many years until his retirement in 1986. Prior to opening Lewis Tire Co., he had the Texaco and Gulf Station in Chickasaw for 30 years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Chickasaw, AL. Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army where he was honorably discharged. He was a member of Chickasaw Masonic Lodge #894, the Scottish Rite Temple of Mobile and served many years as a board member for the Mobile Rescue Mission. He was an avid hunter, and particularly enjoyed going to Alaska to hunt. He loved going to his houseboat on Bates Lake and spent many enjoyable times with family and friends at the Lake and on his farm on the Alabama River Cutoff. He was a pilot and taught flying in Tuscaloosa for many years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Iris Ann McDougal; two brothers, Charlie and Marvin Lewis; and sisters, Juanita McCulley and Ruth Clayton. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Beckworth Lewis; daughters, Janeen (Colin) Saucier of Saraland, AL and Monicah (George) Vernon of Creola, AL; son, Ira E. Lewis, Jr. of Satsuma; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jason West, Charlene and Rhonda of Northside Clinic in Saraland and Deborah Cross of Southern Care.
