

James Daniel Olive – WWII Navy veteran and longtime resident of Saraland, passed away on November 3, 2011, at a local hospital with family at his bedside. Mr. Olive was born December 6, 1924, in Malone, FL. His parents were Algar Olive and Dollie Shirah Olive (both deceased). Spending nearly his entire adult life in the meat business, he realized his dream when he opened Port City Wholesale in Mobile in 1975. Mr. Olive was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Orso Olive; brother, Lamar Olive; sister, Grace Morris; and three grandchildren, Travis Farmer, Sasha Hunt Blakely and Julie Cleckler. Survivors include his wife, Betty Brand Olive; one son, Jimmy D. (Barbara) Olive; two daughters, Diane (Jimmy) Alford and Jeannie (Sonny) Horton; three step-children, Danny (Regina) Cleckler, Cathy (Gene) Counselman and Nina (Tommy) Hunt; two sisters, Martha (Hollis) Headley and Mary (Pete) Dreading; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 6, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Creola Cemetery. Pallbeares will be his grandsons, James D. Olive, Jimmy W. Alford, Jared H. Alford, Cory Couselman, Brian Hunt, Daniel Cleckler and Wade Cleckler. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Dreading and Hollis Headley.
