Johnnie Sheryl Long Powell – an 81 year-old native of Mississippi and longtime resident of Semmes passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Mrs. Powell was a longtime Mary Kay consultant and enjoyed working with the children at Semmes First Baptist Day Care. She was a member of Semmes 2nd Baptist Church where she was actively involved in the women’s ministry.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, Ray B. and Bertha Long, and beloved husband, John Douglas Powell. She is survived by her children, Diane Dobbs (Alonzo) and Monica Davis (Steven); grandchildren, Jason Dobbs (Cindy), Chelsea Dobbs, Mckenzey Davis, and Mallorey Davis; great-grandson, Brady Dobbs; caregivers, Glenda Sullivan, Clara King, Cheltsie Wheeler, and Tina Johnson; other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Kindred Hospice for all of their care and support.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday, December 23, at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
