
Joseph Powell Dearman, a longtime resident of Saraland, AL joined his Lord in heaven on Friday, January 27, 2017 in his home. J. P. was born on January 3, 1930 in Bassfield, MS and resided in Ellisville, MS until he joined the US Air Force. He served from 1948 to 1949 in the Berlin Air Lift as a Load Master in a squadron of Douglas C-74s, the largest aircraft in the free world. J.P. began his career as a construction electrician in 1950. In 1953 he became a lifelong member of I.B.E.W. After a thirty year career at Scott Paper Company, he retired as an electrical construction supervisor. He is survived by Maxine Dearman , his wife of sixty-one years; his son Joey (Saundra) Dearman; his daughter, Gayle Dearman (Alex Saad); granddaughters; Beth (Matt) Nations and Emily Johnson; four great granddaughters; Abbie, Caroline, Camille and Josie-Cate Nations, as well as many more cherished family members and friends. J. P. will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, as well as a dedicated community volunteer. He valued education throughout his life and learned something new every day. His interests were diverse:; he satisfied his quest for knowledge by reading a variety of books and periodicals daily and listening to all kind of music. The family will receive visitors at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 2. Interment service will take place immediately after at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Saraland United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
