Sergeant Larry Lavender traded his badge for his wings September 19, 2021 at 10:33 AM. He was welcomed to his eternal home by his Mother, Father, Brother-In-Law, Bill Lavender; and holding the hand of his angelic granddaughter, Lily Michelle Lavender.

His memory will carry on in the hearts of his wife of forty-seven years, Marilyn Lavender; two sons: Larry (Kim) Lavender, Jr. and Heath (Missy) Lavender; one daughter, Krystal Lavender; nine grandchildren: Justin (Amy), Zach (Lexi), Braxton, Cami, Olivia, Mileigh, Melissa, Adalyn, and Kason; three great-grandchildren: Lillie, Madison, Kynleigh; and one sister, Jean Lavender.

Sgt. Lavender touched the lives of many through his five years of service with the City of Mobile Police Department and thirty years with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department. His most known achievement in law enforcement besides being a devoted husband, loving father, and gold star grandfather, was his work with the mounted unit. There are many other awards and achievements Sgt. Lavender accumulated but too many to note. We will miss the special love and happiness that encircled you. The many memories we’ll all endure and will suffice us until we see you again.

A visitation for Larry will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571 with Chaplain Ron Pierce and Pastor Randy Hogan officiating.

Visitation will resume Friday, September 24, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the Celebration of Life service at 10:00 AM at Radney Funeral Home.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.RadneyFuneralHome-Saraland.com for the Lavender family.

As a young little girl I watch you and my uncle Ronnie walk up to the Gibson department store to buy hot wheels those memories I carried through the years and every time I bought hot wheels for my little boy and now my grandson I always thought of those good old days and remembered you and uncle Ronnie playing in grandma Hartleys living room floor. The beautiful person you will always be may god bless your family my heart is broken for them.

Sarge you will be missed. I had the pleasure of working with and for Sgt. Lavender at the Sheriffs Office for many years. He and my dad
" Papa Joe" also worked on the same shift for many years. A many of days he and I along with Hollywood " Walsh " would eat at the Semmes House of Pizza during our shift. The operator would call "204" every ten minutes and he would be throw a fit then gently pick up his radio say go ahead operator. He often spoke highly of his wife and children but man when he started on those grandchildren you better go ahead and order another pizza and glass of tea. Larry was a great supervisor but an even better friend to me and my dad. He let daddy work the track with him for years. He let me work a few times until they asked us to dry the track one night with our patrol cars. After it was over he asked me did I enjoy drying the track and I said heck yea Sarge that was fun and he said well good because you will never do it again. You will be missed my friend.

I have so much admiration and respect for Mr. Larry. He was so kind and made me feel welcome to the family 20 years ago. I love the way he loved his wife and family so much . There are not enough kind words to describe him. You are loved and missed by so many.
