

Marion Crawford Knapp, a native and lifelong resident of Malcolm, AL, was born on March 24, 1928 and departed this life on January 27, 2013 at the age of 84. Crawford was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved to work in his garden. His career began in 1946 oiling and operating cranes and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 653. He was instrumental in the building of the George C. Wallace Tunnel, General W. K. Wilson, Jr. Bridge, Cochrane-Africatown Bridge, as well as, other large projects in the Mobile area. Many will remember him as a hard worker and always ready to share a story. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Knapp, his parents Vernon, Edna and Lucy Knapp, brothers Vernon Lee, Norman, Dewey, and Aubrey Knapp and sister Grace Dolbear. He is survived by three sons Ronnie (Angie) Knapp of Malcolm, AL, Randy Knapp of Mobile, AL, Jeff (Amy) Knapp of Piedmont, AL and one daughter Angie (Gary) Forbus of Anniston, AL; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. from chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Visitation will began at 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in Malcolm Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregiver, Ethel Goines, of over 3 years, Springhill Hospice, and the 4th Floor North East Staff at Mobile Infirmary Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
