Oscar “Lamar” Burnette, 88, peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 2, 2022. Lamar was born May 6, 1934 in Clanton, AL to George and Lillian Burnette. He spent most of his life in Saraland, AL, where he and his wife Dorothy were members of Shelton Beach Road Baptist Church. He has been a resident of Florence, MS for the past 13 years.
Lamar is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth (Sabie) Allen of Richland, MS, Patricia (Rocky) Gant of Clinton, MS, Alice McGowan of Richland, MS, and daughter-in-law, Denise Burnette of Satsuma, AL; seven grandchildren, Victor (Laura) Goodwin Jr. of Brandon, MS, Wendi (Mitch) McLendon of Florence, MS, Eric (Jennifer) Myers of Clinton, MS, Zackary (Heather) McGowan of Richland, MS, Devin Allen of West Lafayette, IN, Michael (Amanda) Burnette of Wiggins, MS, and April (Heath Fuller) Burnette of Harvest, AL; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Vesteen “Mott” Burnette of Clanton, AL, and Robert Burnette of Clanton, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Jean; parents George and Lillian; son, Danny; granddaughter, Savanna; grandsons, Kristopher and Danny Ray, Jr.; sisters, Gladdis, Peggy, Wilma, and Vera; and brothers, Clarence, Lloyd, and Preston.
Lamar loved his family, cheering on The Crimson Tide, chewing his tobacco, fishing, and telling jokes to anyone that would listen. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed.
Services celebrating Lamar’s life will be held Saturday, December 10th, 2022, at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. Visitation will begin at 1 pm, with funeral following at 2 pm.
Pallbearers will be Sabie Allen, Michael Burnette, Chris Knight, Warren Knight, Dewey McGowan, Zackary McGowan, Mitch McLendon, and Eric Myers.
