Sarah Ann (Nowell) Durham, 83, went to heaven on July 15, 2015 and was reunited with her beloved husband of 65 years. Before passing she had several days to visit with her cherished sister, Dot and brother-in-law Tom Durham (Claremore, OK). A well-attended Durham Family Reunion over the July 4th holiday allowed visits with many relatives she might not have and she truly enjoyed seeing and visiting with everyone.
She was born and raised in Philadelphia, MS and married Ed Durham on October 14, 1947. They moved to Saraland in 1983 to be close to family. While Ed was a good father, work took him from home a good deal of time which made Sarah not only a wonderful mother, but a pretty terrific father as well. In addition to always being there for three sons, she was like a mother to Donna and Sue. She was kind and helpful to her neighbors, active in her church and volunteered at the Mobile Infirmary for many years.
Sarah is survived by and will be truly missed by many friends and family, including sons Wayne and Teresa Durham (Carrollton, TX), Mike Durham (Satsuma, AL), Danny Durham (Foley, AL), Sue and Shannon Gainey (Brandon, MS), Donna Smith (Southaven, MS), granddaughter Karianne & Richard Hamel (Gulf Shores, AL), grandson Ryan and Brandie and great-granddaughter Vivian Harper Durham (Satsuma, AL). Her sisters Dorothy Durham, Linda Robertson, Hazel May Bozeman, brothers John, Victor, Cecil and Harold Nowell, sister-in-law Willie Jo McCarty as well as a host of additional relatives will have many fond memories.
Funeral services will be held at the Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, AL at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Sarah’s honor to the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center (5 Mobile Infirmary Circle, Mobile, AL 6607).
