C. Yvonne Shumway

December 19, 1948 – February 19, 2025

Our cherished Yvonne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born in Ohio and raised in Ft. Myers. She relocated to Sarasota at the age of 21. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Brian Jon. Her sister Patti and her mother, Ruth. A lifetime dog lover. She leaves behind her faithful companion Abby. She was a loving Stepmother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Mother-In-Law and Friend.

Yvonne dedicated 50 years of service to the Sarasota Police Department as the Secretary to the Chief of Police, from 1969 until her retirement in 2019. Throughout her remarkable tenure, she

worked under seven Chiefs, leaving an indelible mark on the department history.

Yvonne was a dedicated member of SPD but also its historian, witnessing countless changes over five decades. Her commitment and institutional knowledge were unparalleled. She leaves behind a legacy of service and devotion.

Please join us for a quiet goodbye. Visitation will be Friday, February 28th from 10-11 at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, Florida 34232.

We will always carry her in our hearts, and she will be forever missed.

As Yvonne would say, “It Is-What-It Is.”
