

She was born on April 2, 1930 to Hubert and Vivian Ellison in Stover, MS.
Catherine, known to many as Kay, was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sarasota.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her high school sweetheart and first husband, James W. Melton, brothers Ira Ellison, Charles Ellison, Steve Ellison, her beloved sister, Mae Warren and husband, Thomas Pape.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Sandra Melton Day and son-in-law, Warren A. Day of Sarasota. As a proud grandmother, she is also survived by Amanda Briggs McQuillan of Bolton, CT and Loren Briggs Ashby of Monte Sereno, CA. Blessed with six great-grandchildren, Alexander McQuillan, Shannon McQuillan, Austin Ashby, Ryan Ashby, Isabella Ashby, and Carys Ashby, who will carry on her legacy. Other remaining family members in Mississippi include her brother and his wife, Howard and Lyndall Ellison and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who also mourn her loss.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff at Waterside Retirement Estates for the compassionate care they provided for “Kay” over the past three years. We know she will be missed and remembered by all.
Catherine “Kay” Pape radiated grace and warmth, truly a beautiful lady with a sense of style admired by so many.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held for family and friends on July 13, 2014.
