It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mike; our beloved brother, father and friend, who left us calmly and peacefully at the age of 73.
Mike was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but lived most of his adult life in Ruskin, Florida on the Little Manatee River.
Mike had an early career in the Hillsborough County Fire Dept, making captain at the young age of 35. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage around that time, which ended his career, but not his determination to get better. His unwavering attitude to always learn new things and improve himself constantly inspired all who knew him.
He was adventurous and loved being outdoors. He especially liked water sports such as surfing, boating, fishing, and scuba diving.
Mike is survived by his son Travis and daughter-in-law Vanessa, ex-spouse Susan, and sister Judy, as well as many cherished friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Virginia Close.
A memorial service will be held in December at Robert Toale & Sons at Palms Memorial Park, where family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate.
Mike was a good man; honest and trustworthy. He will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
