

Born on July 19, 1943, in Kalida, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Mary Stechschulte, Edith dedicated her life to the field of healthcare. She earned her RN from St. Rita’s in Lima, Ohio, a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, and an MBA from Michigan State University.
Edith was deeply proud of her 52-year healthcare career. She served as President of Beaumont Hospital in Trenton, Michigan, for 15 years, where she oversaw the construction of a five-story all-private room addition. Known for her strong work ethic and professionalism, she left an indelible mark in the corporate healthcare world.
Outside of her career, Edith loved cooking, reading, and traveling. She and her husband, Randy, retired to Sarasota in 2018, enjoying their time together in the community.
She is survived by her loving husband, Randy Hughes; brother, Roger Stechschulte of Alexandria, Virginia; niece, Julie Mekolites of Lima, Ohio; nephew, Michael Stechschulte of Summerville, South Carolina; stepson, Christopher Hughes, his wife Janet, and their children Maggie and Michael of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Edith will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her husband, Randy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, with a reception to follow.
