Frank was born May 25, 1951, in Fitchburg, MA, son of Ruth A. (Hill) and Edgar H. Reed. He grew up on Whalom Rd in Lunenburg, MA and graduated from Lunenburg High in 1969. He attended the Vesper George School of Art, Boston before serving his country in the National Guard, and had a career as an architectural drafter and lumber salesman, working many years for Webber Lumber in Fitchburg, MA and Maki Building Centers in Gardner, MA.
Frank loved traveling with his kids, spending vacations skiing in Vermont with his sister, and visiting his brother’s cottage on the Cape Cod Bay. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and jogger, and would always make sure to run in the annual Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. In his later years, Frank settled in Florida and worked in the facilities department at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota and the Keys. He was especially proud of his work in support of their research efforts in ocean acidification and coral reef decay in the Florida Keys, and enjoyed his work maintaining the animal exhibits, in particular the otters. Frank loved living in Florida, riding his bike, swimming in the ocean, and visiting Selby Gardens.
Frank is survived by his daughter Tiffany E. Reed and granddaughter Margaret of Providence, RI, and his son Travis A. Reed and grandson Eddie (Edgar) of Gardner, MA and San Luis Obispo, CA, who were all the pride of his life; his sister Sandra Laserte and brother-in-law John of Westminster, MA, and sister-in-law Barbara of Eastham, MA; as well as nieces & nephews, Jason Reed (Stacy) and Amy Bocek (Rob), and Linsey Laserte (Ethan) and Lauren Laserte (Conor), as well as grand-nieces and -nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Ronald Reed of Cotuit, MA. He was a kind soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Interment will take place at North Cemetery, Lunenburg, MA at 10:30am on October 4, followed by a celebration of life at the Bull Run, Shirley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Frank’s memory to Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL. https://mote.org/support/memorials-tributes.
