Gary was born July 14, 1941, in Danville, Illinois. He was the youngest son of Harold Glenwood Cox, Sr. and Mary Helen Young Cox.
Gary and his wife Donna Linda DeWeise Cox met their freshman year in Danville High School and fell deeply in love. After graduating in June 1960, they were married on September 18, 1960, at the First Church of the Nazarene and began a beautiful life journey together with Jesus as their personal Savior and guide.
Having no children to raise, they embarked on a successful career together as retail business owners and operators. First, they owned and operated Harold’s Star Market in Danville, Illinois, even opening a second location after a few years. After 18 years, a decision was made to sell the business and purchase a Hallmark Cards and Gift Store in Sarasota, Florida.
Working alongside each other, they enjoyed a life of success and personal fulfillment. They were always by each other’s side with love and support during their many years of marriage and working together.
Gary’s history would not be complete without mentioning his love of piloting a single engine Cherokee in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He also had many special memories during hunting trips with his brother and nephews. Gary enjoyed cruising the Islands of the Caribbean and playing golf.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother. He is survived by his wife, sister-in-law Peggy Cox, niece Marilyn Cox Splitzgerber (Doug), nephews Mark Cox (Vickie), and Steve Cox (Sue).
