He was born February 28, 1942 in Somerville, Massachusetts, son of the late George and Julia Ranier.
George proudly served his country for 3 years in the United States Navy and later built a successful career in the I.T. department at Bayer Corporation.
In his younger years, George enjoyed gardening, yard work, and cooking homemade lasagna and spaghetti sauce, always enlisting the help of his children. Animals always had a special place in George’s life, with cats being his favorite. He enjoyed identifying the many species of birds that came to his feeders, and he took simple pleasure in feeding the wildlife that frequented his yard, especially the “wascally wabbits.” His favorite pastimes also included morning walks around the neighborhood, fishing, trying his luck at slot machines, and having an occasional banana split for dinner.
Surviving is George’s wife of 58 years, Elizabeth M. (Sabo) Ranier; his three children, George J. Ranier (Renee L. Ranier), Susan E. Beil (Kris D. Beil), Patricia M. Horner (Lee A. Horner); and his 4 grandchildren, Patrick Ricci, Alison Taylor, Makenzie Horner, and Rex Ranier; and his two sisters, Violet Cleveland, and JoAnn Cranfield, as well as several nieces and nephews. George is preceded by his sister, Bette Campbell.
Although George has departed from this world, may the memories of him remain forever and always in your hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of George.
