Gilbert was born in Peekskill, New York on January 8, 1937 to the late William and Wilhelmina Stalter Wilson. He was a United States Navy veteran. He married Patricia Wilson on September 17, 1960. Gilbert worked for the Laborers International Union in Dutchess County, New York. He was a member of Local 1000.
Gilbert had a passion for deer hunting, preaching the gospel, and spending time with family.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Wilson; children, Gilbert Wilson, Jr. and spouse Lori, Lynn Titka and spouse Jim, and Neil Wilson and spouse Courtney. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 2 sisters, Regina and Marylou. Gilbert has joined his daughter, Sandra Lee, in Heaven. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1sister.
A visitation will be held on November 24, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, located at 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232 with the funeral services starting at 11:00 am. Interment with Navy honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241
