Beloved husband for 33 years of Elizabeth “Betty” Lumsden. Preceded in death by his first wife Henrietta Dalbon in 1977. Brother of the late Joseph, Rosina, Adolph “Fino” and Robert Andreone and Carlotta Valentino, Rose Emling and Mary Binder. Survived by 14 adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Gus proudly served his country in the Army during WW II under General Patton in the Tenth armored “Tiger Ghost” Division. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and in October 2017 received the Medal of Freedom from the French government for his service to liberate France from Germany in WW II. Although, Gus always maintained that “the heroes were the men who made the ultimate sacrifice.” After the war, Gus was the teaching golf professional at Edgewood Country Club in Pennsylvania for over 30 years. Gus has had eight holes in one, his last one occurring at the age of 103 on the 14th hole of Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, FL. Gus was the oldest active member of the PGA.
Friends will be received at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232 on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. from 1 pm to 3 pm with a Blessing Service and Military Honors at 3 pm.
