Jean Ferguson went home to be with her Lord on June 21, 2016 in Sarasota, FL at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband, Donald; five loving children, Jill Horan (Mike) of Las Vegas, NV, CH Falstad (Linda) of Holland, MI, Betsy Sims (George) of Orland Park, IL, Kathryn Close (Tim) of Columbia, SC and Peter Falstad ( MaryEllen) of Bloomington, IL. Jean is also survived by her sister, Flossie Barense (John) and brother, Orville Torgerson.
Born in Eau Claire, WI to the late Orville and Clarice Torgerson; she received her degree in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin. Living in the Chicago area, Jean raised her five children and eventually began a career at United Airlines as a passenger service specialist for 19 years before retiring.
After retirement, Jean moved to Florida. She enjoyed reading, tennis, golf and Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), where she was very involved in for over 20 years and served in leadership. Jean was an excellent cook and seamstress, making clothes for herself and other family members along with draperies, pillows and afghans. Her skills in the kitchen were also remarkable.
She was always quick with a smile and made friends everywhere she went because she valued people and took the time to show them that she cared. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for Jesus.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Wilfred’s Episcopal Church, 3733 Wilkinson Rd., Sarasota, FL 34233, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jean’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, alzfdn.org, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, NY, NY 10001 or TideWell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
