

Born on April 2, 1936, in Christchurch, New Zealand, Jenni lived a full and vibrant life. She graduated from the University of Canterbury and Christchurch Teachers Training College. She taught High School before leaving New Zealand in 1960 with her husband John Broomfield for Australia where she became a Research Assistant at the Australian National University. In 1963, she moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and worked at the University of Michigan in an editorial capacity in the Centers for Chinese and Japanese Studies and later headed the publication program at the Center for South and South-East Asian Studies.
She spent five years in India between 1965 and 1973 doing historical research. While there she worked with the Little Sisters of the Poor, selling mission handicrafts and editing Bengali manuscripts in English for publication.
In 1975, she married Gerald “Jack” McGinn and moved to East Lansing, Michigan. From 1978-83 she was the assistant to Bishop Sullivan at St. Thomas Aquinas church. She was a member of the Angelus League, the Elks and HELO clubs.
In 1991, she moved to Sarasota, Florida. She became a member of the Meadows Country Club, was President of the Bobby Jones Woman’s Golf Association, and was on the Advisory Committee for the Bobby Jones Golf Complex to the City of Sarasota. She was the President of Encore of Sarasota, was a member of The K of C Women’s Auxiliary, St. Patrick’s Church Women’s Club, and the Red Hat Society. For the past 9 years she has been living at the Sunnyside Retirement Village in Sarasota, Florida.
Jenni was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Jack McGinn. She is survived by her three children; Stephen, Alastair Broomfield, and Nikki Hazen, her stepchildren; Kathy Pavona, Darryl McGinn, Jerry McGinn, and Ken McGinn, and was loved by many grandchildren.
A service for Jenni is currently being planned in Sarasota. Details will be added when the plans are finalized.
