Joan R. Hoonhout went to heaven to be with her one true love - Bob Hoonhout - on June 17, 2019. Joan, daughter of Arnold Rosebluth and Josephine Noon Rosebluth, was born on January 4, 1930 in Montclair, NJ. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and attended Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ. Joan married her high school sweetheart, Bob Hoonhout, on June 14, 1952 at Saint Cassian Church in Upper Montclair, NJ.
After working as a realtor associate for some years, Joan became a broker and opened her own real estate office in Upper Montclair -Joan R. Hoonhout Realtors - in the early 70’s. Her business thrived and she went on to become the first woman president of the Montclair Board of Realtors. She was held in high esteem by members of the community, and she loved her home town passionately. Joan and Bob were iconic in Montclair to a large degree - both known and loved by many who frequently saw them strolling around town, always hand-in-hand.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Bob (d. 2/24/12) and leaves behind her loving son Bob and his wife Kathy, their children Eric (Koleen), Blake (Anna) and Julia (Ryan); daughter Laurie, her husband Paul McFeeley and their sons Rob and Brian; and great granddaughter Aubrey Grace Hoonhout-Jenkins. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Susan Buck of Wayne, PA and her lovely family.
A petite powerhouse, Joan’s passing heralds the end of an era for many who knew and loved her. It bears repeating that she loved her family, friends and town fiercely. She was smart, stunning and a tremendous business woman. Joan cornered the market on social graciousness, and was a glamour girl who never saw herself that way, but others surely did.
Joan will be terribly missed, but her memory will live on and be cherished by all she touched in her 89 years on the planet. May her soul now soar in the heavens, with her Bob, and all their many friends and family awaiting her arrival.
