Joan was born on Sept. 21, 1932 in Kewanee, IL to Ernest and Helen (Fortman) Robinson. She married Edward V. Lathrop on August 16, 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, on Dec. 24, 1987, and her son, Kevin, on Jan. 30, 2013.
Survivors include her daughter, Laurie Cook, and son-in-law, Tom Cook of Bradenton, FL; 2 grandsons, Kevin Lathrop, Jr. and Lee Lathrop of Loveland, CO; sister, Delores Lindbloom of Torrance, CA; brother, Clarence “Sonny” (Shirley) Robinson of Yorkville, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan and Ed were married on Aug. 16, 1952 in Kewanee, IL, and moved to Dixon, IL in 1958. Joan moved to Byron, IL in 2010, and then to Bradenton, FL in 2013, with Laurie, Tom and her granddog, Mickey.
Joan was a member of the Dixon Country Club, and the Dixon Elks Club, for many years. She retired from First Bank in Dixon, IL, where she was the Director of the Presidents Club.
Joan and Ed enjoyed many years sharing fun times and making memories with friends at the Dixon Country Club.
Joan loved to golf, bowl, dance, play bridge, and spend time with her family and friends. She also loved to travel- especially to Las Vegas. Anyone who knew her well, knew that her favorite pastime was playing the slot machines. Since living in Florida, she frequented the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, and Lady Luck was often on her side.
Joan was the best mom and friend; especially to her daughter and son-in-law. She will be deeply missed, loved and remembered forever.
Funeral arrangements were completed by Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, FL.
There will be a private mausoleum interment for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, or TideWell Hospice in Florida, in Joan’s memory.
