John Edward Cunningham

John Edward Cunningham passed away peacefully on November 11, 2021 in Venice, FL at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Carol (Gillen) Cunningham, and sisters Lillian Davenport and Jean Cunningham. John was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, graduated from University School, Cleveland Ohio, class of 1947 and in 1959 he married the love of his life, Beverly Cunningham.

John started working in the agricultural industry and moved the family to Sarasota in the early 70’s. He had a successful construction and development career and worked on many residential and commercial projects in Sarasota County with WG Mills, First Sarasota Service Corporation, and later opened his own consulting business. John was a founding member of the Chamber’s Committee of 100, and a life-long member of The Methodist Church, serving as a trustee member at various churches in both Ohio and Florida.

John was most happy when he was handicapping horses and sitting trackside at Keeneland in Lexington, KY. He was a lifelong Ohio State football fan and loved watching the Cincinnati Reds.

John leaves his loving, devoted wife Beverly, four children – Cynthia Cunningham, John Cunningham, II, Tracy Nedbal (Thomas), Tiffany Gould (Donald), along with eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
