He was the beloved husband of Karen, his partner in every sense - in business, in travel, in laughter, and in the beautiful, ordinary moments that made up their life together. Side by side, they built Henry Fence, a successful business grounded in hard work, integrity, and the unmistakable warmth that defined them both. They weren’t just co-owners, they were best friends.
John lived life as a joyful adventure. He was a man who laughed easily, danced often, and never once met a stranger. His sense of humor brought a fun-loving energy to every room he entered, and his kindness and presence made people feel welcome.
For 10 years, he and Karen embraced the Motorcoach life, traveling the country with their loyal dog, Oliver. Together they chased sunsets, forever seeking endless summers, and collecting stories and friendships the way some people collect souvenirs.
He was the loving father of three: His first born, Tonya (Scott), and twins Jennifer (Ted) and Sean (Ashley). He instilled honesty, hard work, and compassion in each of them. He was the cherished Grandfather of Emma, Ben, Isabelle, Henry, Carmen, Jack, Rayne, Austin, and Gianni, and the delighted Great-grandfather of Lucas, Bodhi, and Blake. His family was his greatest pride and he poured his heart into every generation.
A Vietnam veteran, he carried his experiences with quiet strength and humility.
He loved to tinker and fix things, was rarely in a hurry, but never too busy to share a laugh or lend a hand. He had a sense of joy that comes from loving people, working hard, and viewing the world with curiosity and gratitude.
Although the party has ended, the stories he lived — and the laughter he gave so freely — will continue to travel with all who knew him.
