Dear Diane, though I never had the pleasure of meeting "your Larry" the condolences reflect what a wonderful man he was.  I am sad for your loss and think of you often when in our Publix!

Larry,

You were the most gentle, humbled, and hardworking man with a great sense of humor.   We met in July 2019 when we moved to Homestead, where you and Diane took us under your wing, and your love of life forever touched us.  We will never forget and admire you for being a pioneer of leadership and an honorable person.  

Here is a photo of all of us at Key Largo, where we enjoyed a beautiful evening with great friends that felt like family.  We will never forget you for your kindness and great smile.  We thank God for letting us be part of your life.  We will never forget you and always keep you in our hearts.

I met Larry five years ago when Betsy and I moved in next door.  From our first meeting, Larry was so very friendly and neighborly helpful.  After a few years of socializing with him and Diane, plus some golf with Larry, I came to realize that Larry Gay is truly the single nicest man I have ever met.  I have carried that judgment with me every day since.  
The world needs more people even half as caring and as thoughtful as Larry Gay.
I believe everyone who was fortunate enough to know him will agree with me.  We will truly miss Larry.

So sorry to learn of Larry's passing. He was a precious soul. I have many fond memories of his kindness, spirit of adventure, great sense of humor and love of animals and birds. Can't forget Lucky. I was blessed to have him as my brother in law. You are all in my thoughts.

Larry will always be one of our greatest friends.  We had a lot of fun times together playing cards, racquet ball and fishing.  Memories Joe and I talk and laugh about often.  Larry is certainly a great memory in our lives.

Our loss is god's gain. 

Through our lives we come across certain people that you would say they are “Heaven send” Larry Gay Jr.  was one of them. 
A guardian angel.

God then, in his wisdom sent him an assistant in Diane.

Larry saved people’s homes while working as acting building official and building Inspector Supervisor for Miami-Dade County building department. He made sure that the law was applied fairly. Especially after hurricane Andrew.

What Larry did for us can’t be explained in a sentence or a paragraph…it would take a book. 

There are no words that we can find to show our love and appreciation for Larry.

Our deepest condolences to the family. 

Larry will live forever in our hearts.


Larry was a very kind, generous and fun friend. He welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms.  Even when he was sick, he was still very fun to be around, he was so patient in showing us his high tech gadgets, teaching us playing pool table… He was so considerate, always bringing us fresh fruits from his farm… He and Diane were such a loving couple, we were welcomed to their beautiful home many times.  We will miss him very much! 



Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.  Larry will always hold a special place in our hearts.  He was loved by all who knew him.  

When I think of Larry, I remember how much he loved animals. This picture is from my dog, Cosmo's, birthday party. 

Larry & Diane, of course, were among the guests. 

To keep things in the family, the doggie treats that were sent home to all of Cosmo's doggie friends, came from....DOGS LOVE IT...Gourmet Dog Treats. 

I loved Bob & Sylvia Bailey who sold their home to Larry.  I didn’t want them to leave, not believing their replacement would be anywhere near as good. And then we met Larry.  

From the first, he won our hearts with his down to earth humility and good nature.  Treating us to longans from his orchard and inviting us to play darts. It wasn’t long before we met Diane who seemed like a great match for Larry.

The two of them were constantly working in their yard, perfecting this and that, and yet I never had the feeling that they were judging our comparatively neglected landscaping.  Just friendly greetings  and driveway chats.

But I never was so moved by Larry as on the day I lay in excruciating pain on my bathroom floor after shattering my shoulder. This was after he couldn’t speak any longer.
I managed to call Diane and Larry came over too. Seeing me in great pain he made a groaning sound that started in his heart and communicated such care so that, along with Diane’s calling the ambulance for me and making sure I was OK and covered up, I felt so loved. I’ll never forget that.

That one empathetic groan is sealed in my heart as a memory of the good-hearted, sensitive man Larry was.
