Matt grew up in Carrollton, Ohio, attending local schools and he graduated from the University of Findlay in 1997. Even though he had lived in Florida since 1999, he never forgot his roots. He looked forward to football season every year and was a proud fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers. When he wasn’t watching football, he was watching Star Wars and Marvel productions, and you couldn’t find a bigger fan of Ahsoka Tano or Deadpool if you tried.
Becoming a father was by far his proudest accomplishment and he adored his sons, Jonathan and Ryan. Even now, everyone who speaks of Matt says how he always talked about his boys and was eager to support whatever interests they had. He was a longtime employee of Publix at the Sarasota Distribution Center and worked the night shift so he could be around to do school drop off/pick up and be available for anything they needed.
In addition to Jonathan and Ryan, he is survived by his brothers Jimmy (Heidi), John (Robyn), and Jason (Kelly) all of Ohio, his sister Betty Jo of Kentucky, six nieces and nephews: Josh (Michele), Michaela (Eric), Kylee, Austin, Ashton & Morgan as well as three great nieces Emma, Sami, and Anna. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, his former wife and mother of his boys, Hilary Kustrin, of Sarasota, and countless friends in Sarasota and Ohio. He is sorely missed.
Private services for the family were held in November. A Celebration of Life will be held in January in Florida and in the spring in Ohio. Details will follow.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmsrobartsfuneralhome.com for the Kustrin family.
