Peggy was born on July 29, 1930, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to Margaret Jeanette and Giacamo J. Cosentino. She attended Monmouth College and, on October 8, 1949, married Livingston Andrew McDowell. Together they raised six children: Daniel McDowell, Bonnie Purcell, Margaret Erickson, Laurie Cooke, Georgina Hoffman, and Andrea Berninger, before his passing. Peggy later married Ben Brown on June 6, 1975.
Peggy was a devoted woman of faith and an active member of Saint Martha’s Parish in Sarasota, Florida, for over 50 years. During summers spent in Red Bank, New Jersey, she was also an active parishioner at Saint Anthony of Padua Church. Her faith and her family were the cornerstones of her life.
She is survived by her six children; 17 of her 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Maria Cosentino. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Livingston Andrew McDowell and Ben Brown; her parents, Margaret Jeanette and Giacamo J. Cosentino; her grandsons, Andrew Michael Kohl and Shane Andrew Cooke; and her brother, Carl L. Cosentino.
Peggy found great joy in cooking incredible Italian food for her family, working on any type of puzzle that would stimulate her mind, sewing, spending time with family playing Skip-Bo and dominoes, and she was an avid reader. As a young woman, she loved horses and carried her love of dancing throughout her life. She also enjoyed traveling, including a memorable month-long trip to Europe with her sister Maria.
Peggy will be remembered for her deep faith, devotion to family, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.
