

Peter was born on July 18, 1938, in White Plains, NY, son of Rachel Throop and Curtis Frederick Bayer. He graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, in 1956 and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration with a marketing Major. Following graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Pitfield.
He began his business career working at four Fortune 500 companies, ACF Industries, GATX, Halliburton, and Whittaker Corporation all in the freight car manufacturing industry serving in various sales, marketing and general management positions. He also became President of Berwick Forge and Fabricating Division of Whittaker Corporation, a major freight car manufacturing company.
Peter began Racewalking at age 60 and won many races with the Florida Athletic Association in his age group. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Sarasota.
Peter is survived by his wife, Sally Bayer, his children Peter Curtis Jr., (Lhoryn), Michael Keith and Carolyn Marie Simpson (Steve), his grandchildren Katie Strange (Cory) and Ross Bayer, along with his brothers, Dan (Chickie), Tom (Linda), Steve, Curt (Cindy) and his sister Andrea Paine (Rodger).
He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet, his parents and his brother, Tim.
