

Robert was born on March 3, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Luis and Fortuna Reyes.
He was a retired Homicide Detective of 20 years from the New York City Police Dept. After moving to Florida, he worked at the Sarasota Co. Sheriff’s Office and Sarasota Police Department as a Crime Scene Technician. Also, with the Manatee Co. Sheriff’s Office as a Law Enforcement Deputy at the Courthouse. After retiring from the Manatee Co. Sheriff’s Office, he worked for the Sarasota School District Police , and then later for the FSU Asolo Repertory Theatre as a security guard. He was a faithful member of Church of the Incarnation. Robert was a member of Detective Endowment Association, 10-13 Club and Police Benevolent Association.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elena M. Reyes; sons, Paul Reyes (James) and Andrew Reyes (Sandra); Daughter, Marielena Torres; brothers, Luis Reyes (Patricia), Ronnie Reyes (Michelle) and Richie Reyes (Beverly); sister, Nereida Reyes; sisters-in-law, Hanna Gesicki and Dora White; along with many other loving family members and a circle of close friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 24 at 1 PM at Church of the Incarnation, Sarasota. The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the Heart Transplant Team/LifeLink of Tampa General Hospital and the team of doctors and ICU staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Robert’s name to the American Heart Association, Life Link, ASPCA, American Cancer Society, Sarasota Memorial Hospital or Tampa General Hospital.
