

He married his hometown sweetheart Margaret (Peg) Holmes in 1944, and they were married for 77 years at the time of his death. He was eternally devoted to Peg, his true soulmate.
Roger served in World War II aboard the carrier U.S.S. Antietam stationed in the South Pacific as Chief Radar Officer. He and his crewmates narrowly survived a typhoon, that broke the keel of the carrier and nearly sank the ship. He served three years active duty, and 28 years in the reserves, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. For his service to our country, Roger was awarded the Asiatic Combat Medal, the Atlantic Combat Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Reserve Service Medal.
Roger got his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering at Ohio University in 1942. He then came back to the states after the war and got his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949 at Ohio State University, and then his Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1953. Roger then returned to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and taught for the next 31 years, serving as both a full professor, and also as Department Chairman. He was much-loved by his students, and for two years in a row the students votes won him the University Professor Award.
In 1955, Roger was a consultant at the Goodyear Atomic Corporation. In 1962, he directed a research contract with the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked on the NASA Saturn project.
He retired in 1976 and moved to Sarasota, Florida with wife Peg. He is survived by wife Peg, children Judy Jackson, Jan Wright (Randy), Joy Bragg, Jeff Quisenberry (Nicole), and two grandchildren, Jackson and Aiden Quisenberry. Roger would tell you that his greatest accomplishment is his family.
A memorial service for Roger will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232, followed by a graveside service with military honors at 2:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
