

Roger A. Wingerter, 81, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on April 7, 2021. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 23, 1939 and he moved with his parents, George and Rose Wingerter (preceded in death) to Miami, FL in 1941 where he lived for over 65 years before retiring to Sarasota, FL. Roger had a zest for life, was actively involved with the community and served various organizations over the years. Roger was a member of Rotary International and served as President of both the North Dade-North Miami Club and Rotary Club of Miami. He was chairman of the board for The North Dade YMCA, he was a founding member of CMEC (Construction Material Engineering Council), Florida Concrete Products Association and local ACI chapters. Roger worked for and later took over his father’s engineering and testing firm named Wingerter Laboratories, Inc. As president of the company Roger mentored countless employees and students by having an open lab policy, hosting field trips and being an adjunct professor at University of Miami and Miami-Dade College. He always encouraged everyone to “Learn 10 new things a day”. One of his greatest joys in life was his family and his lifelong hobby of collecting antique tools, going to flea markets and swap meets, and working with plants and staghorn ferns. His Golden Doodle “Tinker” has brought him much joy over the past years as well as being able to travel the world with his love.
Roger is survived by his loving companion, Patricia Burrer, his two daughters, Jennifer and Jill (husband, Leon Chin-You) and his two granddaughters, Jordyn and Jaleah. His sisters Nancy Smith (Richard) and Jane Toney (Robert) and many nephews, nieces, cousins and Patricia’s children, their spouses and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Robert Toale & Sons funeral home, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL with Graveside Service to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery, State Rd 72, Sarasota, at 2pm.
Donations may be sent in his honor to Disabled American Veterans and to Rotary International.
