January 22, 1921 - October 22, 2014
Ruth J. Dick was an amazing woman with incredible spirit who passed away on October 22, 2014 at the age of 93.
She was born in Johnstown, Pa and was married to her high school sweetheart, John (Jack) Dick in 1942. The two of them were devoted to one another and forged a marriage of 63 years which could be the role model for all. During their time in Johnstown, Ruth worked as Assistant Manager of the A and P supermarket, and was involved with the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Dames of Malta, Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. Her nature was to always be helping others. She always wanted to know if you had enough to eat or if you were cold. In 1978, they moved to Sarasota to enjoy golf at the Rolling Green Golf Course and swimming as well as doing serious power walking on the beach and in Tamaron. She became known for her daily, relentless and fast paced walks around the neighborhood where she was an inspiration for fitness. Her community work here included working for The Mended Hearts of Sarasota Memorial Hospital and serving the causes of St. Johns United Methodist Church.
Ruth will be remembered for her loyalty and loving devotion to Jack and to her daughter, Nancy Fehl. Her love of life was obvious. She had a great smile and sense of humor but was most known for her love of singing. She knew the lyrics to hundreds of songs from the 30's and 40's as well as many Christian Hymns. She could light up a room with her voice and inspire others to join in.
Since her beloved husband pre-deceased her, as well as her parents and the rest of her brothers and sisters, she will be most missed by her loving daughter, Nancy, who proclaims her to be the best mother a girl could have.
We say a sad goodbye to one of the 'The Greatest Generation' who survived the depression by selling fish door to door, working as a nurse's aide at Army bases in the US during the war and having a never give up attitude.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy; son-in-law, George Fehl; grandson, Alec Fehl and his wife Jacqui; great-granddaughter, Haylie; and granddaughter, Felicia Rubright and her husband, Tim.
She will be most remembered as a devoted daughter to her own mother, a loving wife to Jack and a super mom to Nancy. She will be sorely missed.
