Sam Brott, 97, son of the late Henry and Stella Brott, died peacefully at his Sarasota, Florida home, surrounded by family on November 7, 2021. Survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Roz; son Murray (Cindy); daughter Jody (Phil); brother Gene (June); grandchildren Josh, Ashley (Adán), Russell (Shawn), Katherine (Michael), and Andrew (Lauren); and eight great-grandchildren.
Sam grew up on Chicago’s north side. At age 18, he enlisted and served as a bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. A decorated war veteran, Sam received an American Theater Ribbon, a Victory Medal, an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and a Bronze Star. After the war, he studied on the G.I. Bill at the University of Wisconsin, where he met Roz, the love of his life. On their first date, he called his mother at midnight to tell her he was with the woman he was going to marry. Their marriage was a fairy tale romance admired by all who knew them.
A partner in Adelman & Brott in Chicago’s northern suburbs, Sam was a home builder and a successful real estate developer. He was charitable and loved helping people. He was elegant, handsome, and charming.
An extraordinary athlete, Sam was an ace tennis player and a skilled golfer. He loved to dance. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, who, after enduring close to a century of losing, finally saw them win it all in 2016.
He was romantic. He was a daredevil who loved the excitement of world travel. He was bold, sensitive, and sweet. His commitment to family and friends knew no bounds.
The funeral – family members only – will take place on Friday, November 12th. Following the funeral, a Celebration of Life – open to the public – will take place at noon at the Sarasota Bay Club, South Tower (1299 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
