

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Kathy (McGovern), and their beloved daughter, Morgan Hennings, both of Sarasota, FL; their dogs, Rudy and Milo; his siblings, Bill Gibson of Lewisville, TX, Bob (Judy) Gibson of Westerville, OH, Scott (Roxanne) Gibson of Fairborn, OH. Carole (Don) Gallimore of Sacramento, CA; his Aunt Sue (Blankenship) Russell of Barboursville, WV, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and Jack Russell Terrier, Jack.
Steve received his B.A. in Journalism from Marshall University in Huntington, WV in 1971. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served four years. He was an information specialist for the Consolidated Tactical Air Command Office of Information at Eglin Air Force Base near Valparaiso, FL. He spent his last two years as the historian of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Eglin.
A professional outdoor writer and photographer, Steve's writing and photographs have appeared in several publications.
He also served as host of Fishing Paradise on Sarasota's SNN6 and was host of Suncoast Outdoors on a local radio station as well as a founder of Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers. He worked for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune for 34 years, retiring as the Outdoor Editor in 2009. He was also the owner/operator of Southern Drawl Kayak Fishing since 2005.
A graveside service for Steve will be held Wednesday, May 11 from 1-1:30 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 with a Celebration of Life Reception following from 2:30-4:30 pm at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232.
