Theodore R. Sample, “Ted”, 84, passed away on Monday, January 7 at his home in Murphy, NC. Ted graduated from DeWitt High School in 1945 and enlisted in the Army prior to playing semi pro football. In 1951 he attended Augustana College in Michigan and graduated with a BBA degree. After college he worked at US Steel and in 1971 moved to Sarasota Florida. He became interested in boats and in golfing.
While residing in Murphy, NC, he and his wife enjoyed their training as Guardian ad Litems’ and Appalachian Angels. Ted was a member of the American Legion and the Murphy Presbyterian Church.
Preceding Ted in death were Marjorie Trysell and Esther Sullivan
Ted is survived by his three children, Randall Sample, Eric Sample, and Laurie Lanney,
His wife, Nina D. Van Gundy, as well as his sister, Margaret Wilson, and six step children, fourteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held January 19, 2013 at 11:00am at Palms-Roberts Funeral Home. 170 Honore Ave. in Sarasota, Florida.
