Bill Ackerly was an extraordinary man, a loving husband, and a true gentleman. He was the picture of health until Covid-19 took that away.
He lived with an irresistible exuberance, commanding the reigns of every moment, memory, and even the routine elements of life. Bill was selfless, always encouraging others to be the best version of themselves.
To be loved by Bill was to be deeply admired and adorned with his wonder of you. He had a way of studying you, taking in every page of your richness. He knew that people, like stories, are never really finished. In his careful observance, he understood that a story, a life revisited, could offer new wisdom every time it’s read. His legacy embodies this very idea, as his loved ones will continue to grow and learn from him long after his passing.
Bill had many chapters to his enriched life. He was a true patriot. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He had a successful career in law enforcement and investigative services for many years. Bill had many accomplishments in his life. He was co-founder of the national franchise MiniMaid Services, along with three restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area, and a successful artist. Bill was also a private pilot, sailor, and skydiver with over 500 jumps. He loved adventure.
The calm of retirement provided Bill with the time to slow down and appreciate his surroundings. The desire to create joy with pictures surfaced late in life. Bill discovered his artistic talents and began painting a few years ago. His work was featured in three galleries consisting of acrylic abstracts, seascapes, and beautiful flowers on canvas.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Donna Ackerly; sister, Lynn Ackerly; 3 daughters; 3 grandchildren; loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, June Ackerly; father, Ralph Ackerly; and brother, Larry Ackerly.
Bill will receive military honors and be interred at the Bushnell National VA Cemetery at a later date.
