

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jimina, one brother, Norm of DeMotte and three children, Dick (Kim) Chappell, Jeff (Ann) Chappell and Lori Beth (Ken) Lenz. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Lindsey (Joe) Patti of Texas, Ashley (Joe) Peres of Texas, Lauren (Jeff) Sandor of Crown Point, Erik Chappell of Texas, Doug Lenz of Minnesota, Kate Lenz of Indianapolis, Kristin Lenz of Louisville and Jeff Lenz of Texas and three great grandchildren; Joey, Emily and Jace.
Don Chappell was born in Chicago and moved to Indiana at the age of 10. He graduated from DeMotte High School and attended Purdue University. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post #440 in DeMotte.
Don became a Master Mason in 1950 and was a Past Master of Griffith Masonic Lodge #735 and was crowned a 33 degree Mason in 1998. He was also a Most Wise Master and Trustee of the South Bend Valley of Scottish Rite Masons and was active in the North Lake County, South Lake County and South Bend Shrine Clubs.
Don retired as a supervisor from Joslyn Manufacturing, Chicago and throughout his career also worked as a supervisor at Combustion Engineering, Evans Products and Taylor Chain.
Don also belonged to the Frist Presbyterian Church of Highland where he served as an Elder.
Per Don’s wishes, services were held privately by the family.
