Arthur was born in Portland, Jamaica in the district of Altamont on January 24, 1927. On August 12, 1951 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica in the District of Aberdeen, Arthur married the love of his life, Phyllis Iona Bernard, Nee Peart. They had four children; Joy Jennifer Alethia Jennas, Nee Bernard, Calvin Ray Anthony Bernard, Glenn Everton Bernard and Angela Bernard who died during childbirth.
In Arthur’s early years, he spent time working in various factories in England, and then as a bus conductor, before emigrating to the U.S. He eventually became a welder for a company in Southern California and enjoyed this occupation for many years until his retirement.
Arthur always had a passion for gardening and planting fruit trees and other crops. His other passion was music and singing. Throughout his life, he was always active in various singing groups at church as well as in the local community.
Arthur was preceded in death by his three sisters; Kathleen Bernard, Agnes Reddick and Alma Bernard and daughter Angela Bernard. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Iona Bernard, Nee Peart, his children; Joy Jennifer Alethia Jennas, Nee Bernard, Calvin Ray Anthony Bernard, Glenn Everton Bernard, grandchildren; Paul Jennas II, Shayna Adetokunbo, Brianna Jennas, Charisse Jennas, Bryson Bernard and Kaliyah Bernard, seven great-granchildren; Evadney and Ethan Saelens, Paul Jennas III, Tyler and Alina Jennas, Shomari and Kiana Adetokunbo, cousins; Lola Miller, Selburn Bernard and Hedley Bernard as well as nieces and nephews.
Arthur was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
