Berta Ann Barker

Berta Barker passed peacefully February 25, 2012, in Scottsdale, Arizona, under the care of Hospice of the Valley. Born to Claude and Jane Burchinal in Mannington, West Virginia in 1921, she lived sixty-seven years in Arizona. She was preceded by her husband John. Berta is survived by three sons: John (Betty) of Reno, Nevada, Michael (Harriet) of Greer, Arizona and Lee (Lane) of Scottsdale, Arizona. Berta leaves behind four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Although she worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Bishop Glass, her greatest love was for children. Berta was an honorary “grandma” to generations of children in her South Scottsdale neighborhood and at Tonalea Elementary School in Scottsdale. Berta was an active member of the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon in her eighties. Her children and grandchildren will remember her with great love and affection.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Valley or Scottsdale Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.

Services are scheduled for 1:00PM on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3421 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85251.
