I knew Chris from middle school through high school when we lost touch.  I'm deeply saddened to hear about his passing and empathize with his family's loss. God speed Chris, you are missed.

My Nephew Christopher was born on Jan. 23rd 1981 and was the first grandchild and nephew to our family. He was adored by all of us, especially by my mother and father, his Nana and Tata.

My Dad quickly bonded with him and pretty much took him everywhere, being both a
Grandpa and a Father figure. There wasn’t an event too big or too small for them to checkout… whether it was a school carnival, Disneyland or just a Saturday garage sale @ Uncle Ralph’s in Tempe, they were always up to something. My Mother enjoyed Christopher so very much herself, spoiling him with his favorite meals all the way into adulthood… All he had to do is ask or call ahead and something would be ready… as of recent, if there wasn’t something made he would offer to take her and his mother out to eat or to the casino. When he was a baby he would scoot around like an army crawl and my Dad nicknamed him “Creeper”, a name that stuck with him his whole life. A lot of you knew him as that and didn’t know who we were talking about when we said “Chris”. 

On recent occasions he would meet me for a drink and I would say “What’s up Creeper?” and when he would walk away the server would ask, is that guy ok what’s his story, why is he a creeper? I would have to tell the story and Chris would come back and say “Just call me Chris, my name is Chris!” … we would laugh and of course he would tell me to stop.

My sister Luann did a wonderful job with Christopher, being a single Mom and facing challenges of an only child, a boy and watching him turn into a young man with a mind of his own. He loved his mother and always tried to do right by her, He was a good boy and a good man. He loved sports as a kid, playing youth football, and later high school basketball at Saguaro. I was lucky enough to have coached him in football. I think he was about ten and learning to play when he came to my team… we had some talent but when he came out he stood out from the rest. I had a tough choice, to play him right away or let him pay his dues and not play him because he was the “coach’s nephew”. During a game our quarterback came to the sideline and said, “Coach, put Chris in for me… he will give us a chance to win” … I thought, what does this kid know.. so I did, and moved that kid to wide receiver and told him to run a streak, asked the line to please block and Chris to run the play, I told him “throw the ball to the streak pattern down the right sideline.” He looked at me and smiled, he was nervous, it was his first play… he threw the ball about 30 yards, the receiver caught it and we scored on a 60 yard play, we started winning games and I never lived it down! A couple of nights ago I was shown a video of Chris and his friends in TRC, a skating group he use to roll with when they were younger… never knew how good he/they were until I saw that video… they really were at the rink practicing, I always thought it was an excuse to go out, thank you guys for showing us that!

My brothers Paul and Manuel did their share, helping him with decisions growing up and pointing him down a straight path from time to time. He was proud of his Uncle Manny of being a police officer and thought it was cool when he came by my moms in a police car or in uniform, what kid wouldn’t. He often called Manny, Paul and Myself to ask for help with things like car maintenance, directions or how to go about things so he wouldn’t make a mistake.

My brother Paul and Sister in law Bonnie leased a home to Chris as a young adult and gave him a chance to begin a life in Queen Creek, helping him with other things along the way. I know he really appreciated that and mentioned it often.

He had a beautiful girlfriend, Fatima and was looking forward to spending time with her and planning their future. He had reached a real sense of being with his job and where he was in life, I think we were all proud of him.

As you can tell, Christopher was a huge part of our family and loved by all of us including his cousins Danielle, Ron, Halie and Bennett … and of course Cousin Dave. In just a short time, only a couple of meetings, he had made an impact in my girlfriend
Mallory’s life too, He spoke highly of her and we shared some good times, I know she will miss him. Judging by who has been here these past few days it is evident that he had a much bigger family of friends than we even knew about. I’m glad all of you got to experience who he was and the kindness in his heart, thank you all for coming and showing your love for him.

I would like to end by saying.. Thank you Chris, you meant so much to me, you were my nephew, one of my football players, like a brother and most importantly you were one of my best friends. I will think of you often, carry you in my heart, never forget you and will miss you everyday!

Chris I am thankful for the time God allowed us to be friends. I still can't believe you are gone. I love you man and although the selfish side of me wishes you were still here, I know we'll see each other in due time.

Years ago, the friendship between you and my son Jake was the main reason we moved back to Scottsdale. That was the start of many priceless memories that are part of my heart. I'll never forget the TRC days and all you "brothers" practicing your skate moves at my house. I was so proud of your amazing crew, the art you guys made of skating, the special bond you all shared. You're one of my boys forever, Chris. I thank the Lord for comforting your wonderful Mom and Grandma, your sweet Fatima, your family, your friends, and your "brothers." You took so much love with you.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I spoke with Melanie, who informed me on what happened. Although I have never met your son, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I pray that God will give you the inner peace to endure this tragedy..RIP Chris...God Bless...

it's been years since we saw each other, but blessed to have met you while we worked at costco together. the memories and laughs we shared will live on forever. without your jokes and yelling "whoooooooa" from underneath an empty box on a cart or across the parking lot...neither one of us would've survived the miserable summers pulling carts. thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. till next time when we get yell "whooooooooa"... rest in peace

Chris, we are very blessed to have had you as a part of our lives for the past 17 years. You and Tyra had a very special friendship and cared very deeply for each other. May Heavenly Father bless you and your family during this tough time and I love you man.
