David was born to Gordon and Marian Furnish in Fort Collins, CO, and moved to Phoenix, AZ as a young boy.
David was a 1956 graduate of North High School in Phoenix and also attended Arizona State University. (Go Devils!) Shortly thereafter, he began his career at Motorola which lasted more than three decades until he retired in September of 1996.
David met Barbara Huffman in 1960 at Bob’s Big Boy Drive In. As the story goes, Barbara’s friend knocked the food tray off of David’s friend’s car, so David went and sat in Barbara’s car while the other two cleaned up the mess. And that’s how it all started with an impromptu first date. During their courtship, David enlisted in the Arizona National Guard and served from 1961 until 1967.
David and Barbara were married on October 12, 1962, and have two children; Christine was born in July of 1966 and Michael in August of 1969.
David poured many hours of volunteer work into his community including the Phoenix Jaycees planning events such as the Phoenix Jaycees Rodeo of Rodeos, The Scottsdale Quarterback Club, and later the Southwest Wildlife caring for rescued desert animals.
His hobbies included golfing, fly fishing, and cheering on the ASU Sun Devil baseball and football teams. Go Devils!
David was extremely fond of his three grandchildren and loved attending their special functions and hearing all about their school, sports, and social lives. He will forever look down on them with love.
A memorial service for David will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at La Casa de Christo Church, 6300 E. Bell Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.greenacresmortuary.net for the Furnish family.
